How the AM I Navigator started

In 2023, BASF Forward AM (now Mass Additive Manufacturing), DyeMansion, EOS, HP and Siemens joined forces to create the AM I Navigator. The initiative came together out of a common understanding that organizations across the Additive Manufacturing landscape needed a way to better understand, evaluate and optimize their industrial 3D printing processes.

The AM I Navigator has now grown to include a wide range of companies at the forefront of consulting, materials, machines, software, post-processing to offer users a single point of guidance through their AM journey.

Goal of the AM I Navigator
Navigating the Complexity of Industrial 3D Printing
The industrialization of Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a journey. One that requires strategic planning, technological alignment, and a deep understanding of business-specific requirements. The AM I Navigator is designed to guide companies through this process, helping them define the right level of automation, connectivity, and quality needed to successfully implement AM in their production workflows.
A Structured Approach to AM Maturity
The AM I Navigator is built around a holistic maturity model, which defines five stages of AM industrialization. These stages provide a structured approach to assessing a company's current AM capabilities and identifying the necessary steps for progression. The model ensures that AM applications are not only technically feasible but also aligned with the company’s specific business case.
Defining the Right Strategy for Your Business
By applying a Maturity Check, businesses can evaluate their current status and identify areas for improvement. This structured assessment, based on Siemens Digital Manufacturing Excellence learnings, provides detailed insights into how AM can be further developed within an organization.

Each recommendation is tailored to ensure that all steps in the AM process chain—from material selection to final product output—are effectively coordinated. The goal is to create open, interoperable AM solutions that add value to the entire production ecosystem.
Taking Action: From Insights to Industrialization
The results of the AM I Navigator Maturity Check offer a clear roadmap for industrializing AM. The insights gained can serve as best practices for the industry, illustrating how companies at different stages of AM adoption can successfully scale their production capabilities.

Whether your business is just beginning its AM journey or looking to advance to full-scale industrialization, the AM I Navigator is your trusted guide in navigating the complexity of additive manufacturing. Define your path, align your strategy, and take the next step toward a more productive and sustainable AM future.
